Who gets custody of the vacuum cleaner?

Avail · 4 min read

Divorce can be crazy and chaotic. It affects every aspect of your life — the house, the calendar, the group texts, the question of who keeps the vacuum. We get it because we’ve been there.

The funny questions are rarely just about the object. A vacuum is a stand-in for who did the invisible work, who is starting over with nothing in the closet, and who gets to feel at home. Name the object, then name the feeling under it. That is usually the real negotiation.

Make three lists before you talk about stuff: what you need to function next month, what has meaning you can explain out loud, and what you are willing to release. Most fights shrink once the third list exists.

Avail exists so you are not doing that sorting alone. The roadmap, the checklists, and the forum are a 360-degree system of support — practical on Tuesday, human at 1 a.m.
